Mansion Tax, the challenge of implem


Mark Collins, Chairman of London Residential, and Jennet Siebrits, Head of Residential Research, discuss our latest research on the implications of introducing a Mansion Tax, an annual tax on high-value residential properties. Both the Labour and the Liberal Democrat parties have committed to introducing Mansion Tax in May if elected; this would mean properties worth between £2m and £3m would receive a tax of £3,000 per year. There are a number of complex issues surrounding the tax such as the overall design, how properties would be valued, how the tax would be collected and when it might be introduced. In this report we discuss the implications and the practicalities of implementing such a tax.
